"little angels"? XP Yeah right!

After some time of thinking of what to write on my blog, I have finally come up with something. But it sounds a bit like complaining to me. Oh heck! What else is a blog for except to vent, eh?

The kids in advisory (I will either change the names or just not use them) were acting up and being their usual noisy selves. This wold not bug me so much except that they were doing it right after the teacher had left the room. For some odd reason they think they can get away with anything if the teacher isn't there. This of course isn't true. They just don't think that I can throw my weight like that I guess. But I'm getting off the subject.

Anyway, teacher was gone and they wanted to play; or eat as the case was this time. Bobby (changed name) had decided to bring a home lunch. No big deal. Eating it in class 30 minutes before the lunch bell? Not on my time! He knew that students aren't allowed to eat in class. I calmly went up to him and ask him to give the soda that he was drinking to me. At the same time the other students are yelling and making fun or just being jerks. (Now I must apologize because there were some that were doing their work.)

I had had enough. I turn from Bobby, who was sitting in the back, and yell almost at the top of my lungs, "Hey! SHUSH!" This got there attention enough to quiet down some. I continued in a some-what-softer voice, "Just because the teacher is gone, doesn't mean you can give me grief! You should all be doing your work. Now shut the heck up!" Dead silence for a few seconds.

Sam at the front of the class, who had been one of the jerks in general, said, "We're sorry."

I looked him right in the eye. "Prove it." I told him in my most deadliest voice. "Get your work done."

I turned back to Bobby, who by now looked terrified. "Now you put that lunch away and the next time you bring a lunch to school, you put it in your locker." I told him almost cheerfully.

"OK. Can you leave me alone now? You're scaring me." Yes he said that to my face. I honestly thought about laughing.

They behaved for the rest of the time before lunch. And when they came back, I was out working with some other students. But it has been along time since I have had to yell at a class like that.

Why is it that kids in that age group (8th grade) have to be such pains? Their great kids and I love 'em, but other times I just want them gone. I always tell kids that I'm nicer than most teachers. But when you get on my bad side, you really get on my bad side.
